3D Models
Our team is using to an interdisciplinary methodology that puts into conversation archaeological findings and descriptions of structures in written sources to develop 3D models of medieval structures that played a key role in late medieval communities. This virtual archaeology seeks to reconstruct structures that no longer exist in order to understand better how medieval communities made and made use of spaces.
Little Manor
The alterations to the Castle extend equally to the broader property and to a series of now absent ancillary structures, one of which poses a fascinating mystery for modern visitors: the now-absent “Lowther Manor” or “Little Manor.”
Virtual Herstmonceux
Using methodologies developed in the field of virtual archaeology, we have reconstructed the castle as it stood in the eighteenth century. This reconstruction is the first step in the wider virtual reconstruction of the estate.
Great Barn
A virtual reconstruction of late medieval Herstmonceux would not be complete without this great barn. The project drew source material from archival records, historical maps, geospatial data, and architectural treatise and co-eval constructions
