Event: A Worshop in Ruins

Scotney Castle, Kent, England
5 -6 October 2024

With support from the Royal Historical Society and the National Trust, this 2-day workshop explores ‘ruin’ in the context of country houses in the British Isles. It brings together museum and heritage site curators, and art, architectural, and documentary historians to consider the changing uses and perceptions of ruins in and with their surroundings. The three central themes are climate change and sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and identities. With a focus on interpretation of these often-complex sites, the primary outcome of the workshop is to develop a free online toolkit for heritage professionals.
